Identifying The Stages Of Alcoholism

Posted by: Admin | Comments (0)

The progression of alcoholism is quite difficult to categorize. Alcoholism has three stages that not everybody knows. This process can undergo a different cycles and these cycles imply different signs and symptoms that would help us identify the stage an alcoholic is in. To identify and differentiate the three stages of alcoholism, we should know the different manifestations that each stage should present. In general, the three stages of alcoholism are the adaptive stage, middle stage and the last stage.

Many concerned people are curious to know whether someone suffers alcoholism. Other more curious people beget the idea on how to identify if one person undergoes a slight to grave alcohol abuse. Often they do not know how to start with the observation. To help them with the broadening of their knowledge and awareness, this article should discuss the three different stages of alcoholism in order to at least draw a perspective treatment for people who suffer alcoholism.

Accustomed presentations of the stages are as follows: The early stage of alcoholism might expound slight physical changes on the person. Same as true with the middle change. These two stages are quite difficult to differentiate but as we go along the article, we will find the point of contrast between them. More over, an alcoholic is subjected to one of these stages. You can differentiate whether he or she is in the early or middle stage by researching about the amount of alcohol intake he or she is taking in. Also, do a research on the frequency of the alcohol abuse. This may be done through a series of interviews with the alcoholic. But this is sometimes an irrational method. Alcoholics sometimes deny that they do not intake huge amounts of alcohol. The research should then be objective enough to truly identify the stage he or she is into

But practically speaking, the method of identifying the stages is not that helpful for the alcoholic. There are possibilities knowing that he or she is being suspected for alcohol abuse, he or she tends to do it more often. He or she will establish a state of denial wherein he or she could not feel that he or she is not trustworthy. Considering that instance, the identification of the stages of alcoholism is just a stepping stone towards the cure and treatment of the alcoholic. The most important part therefore is helping the alcoholic cope up with the addiction until they recover.

The Adaptive Stage

The adaptive stage is described by the tolerance to alcohol and the slightly dominant physical changes that can be barely observed. One could possibly identify this stage provided that you are aware of the alcoholic’s capability to take in larger amounts of alcohol but does not manifest an obvious physical change.  An early stage alcoholic can drink relatively large amounts of alcohol without feeling groggy or does not have any hangovers at all. But this stage is difficult to ascertain. The alcoholic just tends to drink more because he does not feel any effects of the alcohol.

The Middle Stage

This stage is differentiated from the early stage when the alcoholic now suffers withdrawal when alcohol is not taken in. He craves for more and more amounts of alcohol compared to his early stage. Alcoholics in this stage are created with a larger appetite for alcohol. They come to think that they do not feel good when they do not drink alcohol. This causes them to uncontrollably search for ways to find alcohol to drink.

The Last Stage

This stage is the easiest to detect. This is when the alcoholic suffers enormous health effects due to massive drinking. People who are in the last stage are those who suffer an over all self- destruction. Aside from the health illnesses he is undergoing, he is also likely to have mental illness and feels he could not live without alcohol. The worst manifestation of this stage is obviously death.  This is the most detrimental stage that sometimes is incurable.
